Sleeping with mould

In this case the occupant was complaining of feeling unwell while inside the unit and better when away for periods at work and holidays. They could not find any reason for the health issues and could not find any mould. On inspection using infrared imaging it was found that the west wall had high moisture content. This mould growth was found behind the bedhead in the main bedroom. The cause was water ingress to the exterior wall behind the bed. The building has 9 levels and this bedroom is on level 6. It is the result of a building defect. I am currently completing mould remediation for all levels for the units that share the same west wall. The builder is working with strata to repair the water ingress.

The room was deemed uninhabitable until full remediation has been completed due to the area and the amount of mould growth. The owner of the property was also informed that until the wall has dried to an acceptable level it will be at a high risk of future mould growth.
